If you are in Mira Mesa on Thursday nights

Fuddruckers, 8285 Mira Mesa Blvd.

South side of Mira Mesa Blvd, on the South West corner of Camino Ruiz and Mira Mesa. Enter a block south of Mira Mesa Blvd, or a block West of Camino Ruiz

Every Thurs

And Cars.net says that I Hop on Mira Mesa Blvd (east of Cam Ruiz) also has a car show on Thursdays. Hmmm. Odd choice of days to have a car show on Mira Mesa Blvd, after all the years Fuddruckers has been throwing a show.

Overdrive : Hot Rod News

Go on down to El Cajon on Wednesdays, look around for a hot rod newspaper being dropped into the show cars. Or go to some of these locations for a copy:

The Classic Malt Shop (get a chocolate malt! Damnit! Those are good!) Midway Dr, west of Rosecrans, south side of the road, behind Home Depot. their cruise night is 6 to 9 p.m.
Fridays, 3615 Midway Drive
Cars from the '50s and older. Information: (619) 226-1600.

Progear on Ronson, in Clairemont. Have them take a look at the diff in your hot rod, they are the best. Bar none. I'm going to do a post on them too, once I get into a best of San Diego frame of context.

Trueline in El Cajon, site of the last 22 annual car shows, just about a block west of the 67, on Bradley.

Beef and Bun on Fletcher Parkway, where they have a car night once a month... but so far I can't find that info... 2477 Fletcher Pkwy, El Cajon, (619) 465-0767 South side of the road

Carl Burger Dodge on the North side of the 8 in La Mesa, to the left of the entry drive way. Hercules St, take the Jackson St exit off the 8, and hook a west turn at the bottom of the hill at the Chevron, up the hil and hook a left. Sorry my directions suck, but it's better than "Hercules St " that's just not helpful, this dealership is lost in a maze of screwy little roads. Easy to see from the interstate, and been there for about 40 years or so. They have no idea, but they used to sell 440 six pack cars. No one there old enough to remember, except maybe my Mopar Club former Pres... very great guy. Not sure what he does there. . . keep them in line I bet. He knows Mopars better than anyone else there. Ask for the guy who owns the Hemi Satellite, who smokes a pipe. That's the guy, very cool.

http://autos.signonsandiego.com/calendar/cc-index.php for car cruise nights. Not the most friendly way to get the info, it's after a string of info entry in case you want to subscribe.

Toyota is world's top car maker

Japanese car giant Toyota has overtaken America's struggling General Motors to become the world's biggest vehicle manufacturer.

Sales at GM, which had been top dog for 76 years, (is no longer king of the hill.)

Ford earlier this year revealed the biggest loss in its history. DaimlerChrysler is cutting 13,000 jobs in North America and has put its Detroit-based Chrysler unit up for sale.

http://business.scotsman.com/technology.cfm?id=635642007

How ya like them apples? It's due to very few factors, number one just may be that the AFL/CIO isn't strangling Toyota. GM is about dead, Ford too, Chrysler is on the chopping block.

Once a senior chief on my sub explained to a bunch of us shipmates what a paradigm meant.
American Heritage Dictionary - par·a·digm (pār'-dīm', -dĭm')
n. One that serves as a pattern or model

He also explained that paradigms are often broken by the inception of a better idea, and newer way of getting the same task accomplished.

I bring this up because I think the sound just heard was the breaking of the US automobile machine that has outproduced and outsold all others on the planet.

Nascar was the first step for foreign automakers, then they bought Chrysler, now, they outsell GM.

What's next?

18 thousand miles since new... probably to and from the 1/4 mile, and lots of times down the track

1968 Shelby GT 500 KR, Nascar tunnel ram 427 side oiler. Only 900 miles on it since 1970... think investment. 13.5 to 1 compression, think 115 octane or better, expensive to get even 900 miles along.
With probably 6 or 7 miles per gallon on this dual quad gas pump, a 20 gallon tank, and around 8 bucks a gallon, I think it may be close to guess that they've only burned up about 1200 bucks in gas in 37 years. Thats 900 miles in 37 years = 24 miles a year = 4 gallons of fuel a year.
